Who is this Vanessa C. Shortley?
So, who am I and why am I qualified to write a bridal blog?
Well, I’m a bride. I got engaged March 23, 2007, and I’ve been planning ever since. We’ve had several wedding dates (brides, I’m sure many of you can commiserate), but finally settled on June 14, 2008. The time went slowly and quickly at the same time.
As for the writing side of it, I’ve got an associate degree from the County College of Morris in Randolph, N.J., and a bachelor’s of arts in communication/ print journalism and internationational relations and comparative politics from East Carolina University (go Pirates!).
But no, we’re not having a purple-and-gold-themed wedding.
In fact, we’re having a green and yellow wedding.
And we’re done! We got married June 14. In fact, you can read about in in the June 2008 archives.
But basically we got married in a Catholic Church, my in law’s in Raleigh, in what I though — and what other’s told me — was a beautiful ceremony. It wasn’t a full Catholic mass, though, because I’m not Catholic. My best friend from New Jersey and my sister in law were my bridesmaids. Tim had his best friend from college and my brother as his groomsmen.
After the ceremony (and an impromptu receiving line AND pictures), everyone headed over to our reception, which was a kickass party. The food was amazing, the cake was delicious, the flowers and decorations gorgeous — and everyone had a good time dancing and getting into various shenanigans.
When we were done, Tim and I both said we thought it was the best wedding we’d ever been to. Everyone else seemed to think so too.
