i knew it couldn’t be this easy
I knew it all seemed to simple.
Remember my easy-in, easy-out Greenville Utilities Commission name change? I went in, I showed them my driver’s license, the woman seemingly just copied it from there and I was out, in about 5 minutes.
Then, I got my bill.
Apparently, my name is now a mix of my first name, my old middle initial and my new last name.
…
WTF?!
So, I will now be required to make another trip to GUC. Hopefully, this one will get everything straightened out.
But, a thought occurs to me. Most women still change their names in some way, whether it’s straight dropping the maiden name and picking up the husband’s name, dropping the middle name and tacking the husband’s name on the end, hyphenating or any other combination.
So, why isn’t this easier? Why haven’t more organizations streamlined the process? Honestly, it’s a little ridiculous how much time (and money, in some cases) it takes to get all this done. There is really no reason for any of that.
Seriously, people. If I’ve got a certified marriage license, I don’t see why any of this should be such a hassle.
